Scuba Diving, Bayahibe Dive Sites

Our Bayahibe wreck diving charter offers scuba divers the chance to explore two of the best shipwrecks in the Dominican Republic. Prepare to jump into the deep waters and discover the captivating underwater world surrounding the iconic St. George and Atlantic Princess wrecks. Each site presents a perfect spot for diving enthusiasts to explore, making Bayahibe scuba diving an unforgettable experience.

  1. St George Wreck
  • Depth: 40 meters (131 feet)
  • History: Built in Scotland in 1962, the St. George was originally a cargo ship transporting wheat and barley between Norway and the Americas. After being abandoned in Santo Domingo, it was renamed St George after the hurricane Georges that hit the Dominican Republic (and the whole Caribbean and the gulf of Mexico) in September 1998. It was intentionally sunk in 1999 off Viva Dominicus Beach to create artificial reefs.
  • Highlights: The wreck is home to numerous schooling fish, including barracudas, and is covered in colorful corals. It’s a popular wreck dive in the Dominican Republic for advanced divers due to its depth.
  1. Atlantic Princess Wreck
  • Depth: 12 meters (40 feet)
  • History: The Atlantic Princess was a small passenger ship that did dinner cruises at sunset. In 2008, it ran aground on the beach during Tropical Storm Fay. The plan was to sink the ship, and create a beautiful underwater environment and artificial reef for visitors to enjoy. But the Atlantic Princess actually sank on its own on May 6, 2009. It is now a safe and engaging dive site for novices.
  • Highlights: Smaller wreck, ideal for beginners, home to colorful corals, sponges, and a variety of reef fish. On most of our Bayahibe scuba diving tours, divers can expect to see various reef fish, such as parrotfish, angelfish, and groupers. You can check the Ministry of tourism’s photos of the Atlantic Princess wreck
